Summary: New Oral Medication for Type 2 Diabetes
Patient Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria
· Must be 21-65 years old
· Must have type 2 diabetes
· Must never have taken more than 1 oral medication for
treatment of diabetes
· Must never have taken insulin, Rezulin, Avandia or Actos
This is a 14-week study that evaluates the glucose-lowering and
lipid-lowering effectiveness of a new oral medication (investigational)
in subjects with type 2 diabetes.

Twin Cities Clinical Research is taking part in a drug research
study to assess the ability of medication to delay the progression
to diabetes.
Participants will:

Summary: Study of Diabetes Prevention African Americans Needed
for Diabetes Prevention Study
African Americans are twice as likely as other populations to
develop diabetes. Dr. Joseph Aloi at the University of Virginia
is looking for African Americans who are at risk for developing
diabetes to participate in a diabetes prevention research study.
Diabetes risk factors include family history of diabetes or early
heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, current
or past cigarette smoking, overweight, and previous cardiovascular
events such as stroke or heart attack.
Candidates interested in this diabetes prevention research must
be non-diabetic, at least 50 years old and have some of the common
risk factors for developing diabetes. All study related care is
provided at no charge to those who take part including doctor
visits, physical examinations, laboratory tests, diet and exercise
counseling, and study medication. Financial compensation is also
provided.

Summary: Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation is conducting
a 24 week clinical research study for males and females between
the ages of 18 and 80 years old with Type 2 Diabetes who are inadequately
controlled with insulin
The purpose of this 24 week clinical research study is to assess
the safety and effectiveness of an add on investigational drug
in patients with Type 2 Diabetes treated with insulin.
Participants must meet all of the following criteria:
· Males and females between the ages of 18 and 80 years
old
· Willing to use an approved method of birth control (if
required)
· Have a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes
· Previously treated with insulin for at least 3 months
and have been on a minimum dose of 30 units of insulin per day
for 4 weeks before entering the study
· Agree to maintain prior diet and exercise program
You CANNOT participate if you:
· Pregnant or breastfeeding
· Have a history of Type 1 Diabetes
· Are receiving treatment with an insulin pump
· Have a serious medical or surgical conditions
· Have liver disease
· Have taken oral antidiabetic medication within 3 months
before entering the study
· Are taking growth hormones
· Have leukemia or lymphoma
· Have a history of active substance abuse (including alcohol)
within the past 2 years

Summary: This clinical research study aims to assess the safety
and effectiveness of adding an investigational study medication
to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved drug Pioglitazone
(Actos®) for lowering blood sugar levels in people with Type
2 Diabetes.
A 24 week research study is being conducted for males and females
between the ages of 18-80 years old that cannot control their
Type 2 Diabetes with Pioglitazone (Actos®) tablets or Rosiglitazone
(Avandia®) along with diet and exercise.
Participants must meet all of the following criteria:
· Males and females between the ages of 18 and 80 years
old
· Have a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes
· Taking Rosiglitazone (Avandia®) or Pioglitazone (Actos®)
for 3 months before entering the study
· Agree to maintain current diet and exercise habits
· Willing to take an approved method of birth control if
required
Participants CANNOT meet any of the following criteria:
· Diagnosis of type 1 diabetes
· Pregnant or breastfeeding
· Serious medical or surgical condition
· Leukemia or lymphoma
· Liver disease
· Taking growth hormones
